Hello Readers’,
Does anyone remember the “fireside chats” ? They were the evening radio addresses that Franklin D. Roosevelt had during his term as Governor of New York, then as President. As warm and fuzzy as that sounds, he used them to appeal for help in getting his agenda passed. As letters poured in following the addresses, the voice of the people helped pressure legislators to pass measures that Roosevelt had proposed. Admittedly, I wasn’t around during his presidency…now thinking harder, I don’t think my parents were around yet either. I learned about the “fireside chats” in school and later doing my own research on the topic.
I remember a quote from the movie “V for Vendetta”, that should be appropriate, regardless of where you are or your occupation.
“ People should not fear their Government, the Government should fear their People”
I have had dreams of actually having fireside chats with America, and anywhere else it’s televised…not so much to push an agenda, but to bring Government closer to its people. It is, after all, the people who should elect us ( remember to go to www.opencongress.com and vote FOR the measure to Abolish the Electoral College ), and it is for the people that legislation is written. I hope to have the most transparent Presidency since F.D.R., and the Presidency in which America gets involved.
For too long I have seen Presidents come and go and legislation written to expressly help only Big Business and the wealthy…while average people lament and look forward to the day they can elect someone else…only to repeat the same events…year after year after year.
If anyone reading this thinks that making a difference is beyond them, then I apologize in advance and leave you to your “status quo”. For those that read this and know that it IS WITHIN OUR POWER, to make change…A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE, then continue to follow and read and watch….but most importantly…GET INVOLVED.
Thank you very much for passing this blog on through sharing and word of mouth. I enjoy writing this and researching issues that affect us and the world around us. I also enjoy adding humor when I can, so forgive that trespass if you are looking strictly for a politically charged blog. Have a terrific day. See you tomorrow!
