I spent 3 years in Germany...stationed with the Mighty 51st Trans Company, just outside of Mannheim proper. I explored as much as I could during my time there, and found the strassenbahn ( street train ) to be a very efficient form of travel. Inexpensive and fun to ride, especially with friends. Two dear friends with whom I still have contact with are Sabine and Claudia. They helped me with many of my attempts at German pronunciation. Fun language and fun times. We played darts at a local Irish pub and traveled to see Heidelberg Castle. Also ever present near our base was the Mannheim Wasserturm ( water tower ). Germany is especially beautiful in the winter near Christmas time, with stores decorating in grand fashion!! I look forward to visiting Germany and Austria to see my friends again!!
