Welcome to the New Year...

  Hello everyone,

Many different time zones, with some countries already entering 2012.  I am five hours from midnight and working tonight...which is alright by me.  No fireworks here, but we have music.

One:  My last hope for the New Year is peace.  Plain and simple, yet likely to be the only one that is nigh impossible.  Sad to say, but true.  I will do my part to promote peace and hope for everyone that reads this:  May your New Year include peace.

Fireworks courtesy of youtube.com and our friends in the U.K.

And for the sentimental folks.......

And for those that may have missed some information during 2011:

To my readers, thank you much for spreading the word, and here's to 2012 and going full bore towards 2016.  I am still learning much about what will be required of me, but will never lose sight of those who help me get there.  Have a fun and safe New Years.

Trevor

PS.  I'm sending out a special wish that my friends Bob and Col. (Ret.) Bill get well soon.

Goodbye 2011.....last person out, please get the lights.

Four-three and two...........

   Hello friends,

During this past year a few of my friends had to be hospitalized......so, starting at four..

4.  I hope that my friends get well and that anyone who feels bad, or feels pain, please get it checked...because it can become worse.

3.  With Washington State so dreary, rainy and overcast...please let one of our sport teams win in 2012.  Okay, this one doesn't count.

3.  I hope that all people will take a moment to look at themselves...just briefly, to see where you are and know where you can go.

2.  I hope to continue to have the same passion and continue to write this blog as we get closer to 2016.

ONE:  Will have to come back tomorrow.

Have a great day.

Top Ten Hopes for 2012, part two......7, 6, 5.........

   Hello everyone,

Back and ready to continue my top ten list of hopes for the coming New Year.  Haven't heard much back, but want you to know I am including many countries and places....to have peace and health else where is as much as having peace and health at home.  With that......let us continue...

7.  In North Korea, I have hopes that Kim Jong Un, rules not with an open fist, but an open mind.  Now is the time to join the world.

6.  In Japan and the Philippines,  may their people remain steadfast and strong in the wake of natural disasters.  The same applies to any and every country, where these disasters may occur at any time.

5.  In America,  I hope the OWS protests opened eyes to the truth that the 1% didn't cause the economic collapse, but our own Congress that allowed it to happen, and while companies were closing and laying Americans off, our Congress and government grew by 15% and their pockets continued to amass fortunes.

I am still hopeful that Americans will open their eyes, not only before the elections in 2012, but all elections.  To blindly vote for "their party" or the same incumbents in Congress who have brought America to her knees, is not the way to vote.  If our Congress fails to police itself, I will happily create Executive Orders, demanding full disclosure and accountability.  Our current president has brought forth over 100 Executive Orders since he was elected ( by the Electoral College ) and not one of them deals with reining in our government or Congress....and several of them actually helped the government expand.

Have a good day all....

Top Ten Hopes for the New Year, 10,9,8......

Hello friends and readers,

With a few days until 2012, and so much happening in the world, I have created a list of hopes for the New Year, and will pass them along over the next couple days.  Please know that these are in no particular order or arranged due to importance or necessity.

10.  In Russia, I hope the will of the people, translates into a more understanding and better government.

9.   In Syria, may the people become free and the perpetrators of grave injustice found guilty.

8.   In Egypt, may new elections remove the military from power and allow for a peaceful transition into a government for the people.

Three is a good start for now. I will add a few more tomorrow and finish up on the 31st.  Have a terrific day.

Some hope for the New Year

  Hello friends and readers,

I am hoping to add a video that was sent to me in an email from my mom.  The video is titled " Change for a dollar " and runs for a little more than 10 minutes.  Even though the video is scripted, watching it really stirred something inside me...maybe it is hope that we can all become as selfless as the main character....or that bit by bit, if everyone "paid it forward" just once...the world would become a better place.  Here's hoping this works....going to paste the link here:

http://www.flickspire.com/m/Share_This/changeforadollar?lsid=161f9da9b7692b6854ca64548e80ab61

I will be watching the video again shortly....letting it boot up on this crusty computer I have.  If you watch the video and think it's worthy to share....please do.  If it stirs some emotion, feel free to comment.  I am looking into contacting the folks that made the video and thanking them for a job well done....the videos aren't made to make money, they are to help us look inside ourselves and maybe make a positive difference.  We are a day closer to the New Year.....my Resolution is to be happier and more accessible to everyone.  Seems my post was redacted....just right click and scroll over the black to see my resolutions.  Have a wonderful day all.

Happy New Year...the best is yet to come....unless.....

Hello readers and friends,

We are almost to a New Year....time certainly flies....unless you are deployed..ha ha.  The Mayan calendar ends on the 21st of December 2012.  Depending on what you believe to be true...the following will happen:

1.  Nothing, the Earth will continue to spin, and we continue to have night and day for the foreseeable future.

2.  World Ending War....I think, as a whole, we are too smart for this scenario to occur.

3.  Cataclysmic events of biblical proportions....the Gods ( and I use plural for the benefit of all religions ) may find our wars and crimes and games too much to bear, but I hardly think destroying everything would be a logical fix....pardon me for assigning 'logic' into Godly design.

Personally, I believe option (1) will likely be what happens on December 21st, 2012.  I certainly hope nothing happens, because my chance to take on Big Government would be moot, and this blog would have been for naught.

I will be getting back on track tomorrow or the next day, and am so looking forward to going "live" and adding my videos to this blog and to www.youtube.com.  I won't be retired until early 2013 ( if we are still around ), but that won't stop me from explaining my views on everything and anything that matters.

 Have a great day.

Merry Christmas, where ever you are....

Hello friends,

Christmastime is upon us...instead of my planned huge story, I will leave a message, some really cool FREE links to make your or your loved ones Christmas that much brighter and maybe my favorite Christmas song from years past.

Joy. happiness, good will and peace on earth....we hear these words often between Thanksgiving and Christmas....but not so much before or after. My New Years Resolution is to promote good will and happiness more often...and maybe if more people did, that could bring 'peace'.  Thank you everyone for a great 4 months. Have a wonderful Christmas!

This link I found a few years ago....it's very fun and FREE.  You can turn yourself or your family ( pets too ) into elves and email yourself to anyone you want.  It's a very cute and funny.

http://www.elfyourself.com/

This link is fantastic and only found it this year ( through a relative ).  In this one, you can supply some data and a photo, and before you know it, you have a video of Santa talking to whomever you picked.  I believe the initial service and video are FREE, and that for a small price you can have a DVD made.

Very possibly the last email I will receive from a Senator....until i'm elected.

  Hello friends,

In these days before Christmas and my preparation of a 'Grand Christmas Post' I will post an abridged response I received from Senator Cantwell in response to the following email:

S.940 Close Big Oil Tax Loopholes Act
I am writing as your constituent in the 6th Congressional district of Washington. I support S.940 - Close Big Oil Tax Loopholes Act, and am tracking it using OpenCongress.org, the free public resource website for government transparency and accountability.

This will be my second correspondence concerning this Act and wondering out loud when we will see some legislation restricting the flow of our tax dollars to countries that do not deserve it. I am not in the habit of being "buddy buddy" with anyone, especially if they hate me, as an American. Good example is Pakistan. Sure...we give them a lot of money and they stem the flow of insurgents from Pakistan to Afghanistan...your'e kidding...right?

I do appreciate that my Senators voted 'Aye' on this Act during it's first failed attempt at passage. If you could forward this to the Republicans and let them know if it fails again, they will not need to run for office for an additional term. Any Senator that votes 'Nay' on this or any related bill obviously has their hand in the pocket of big business and oil.

On a related subject ( roughly ). The Occupy Protesters are against the 1% ( millionaires ). Can a Congress that is nearly 50% ( millionaires ) truly represent the average American? I truly hope, if any, you all respond to this email via opencongress.org.

Sincerely,
Trevor Dodge

Notice the highlighted area?  I threw them a bone....being nice to them.  Here is the response I got..it's lengthy so I will highlight certain parts and add commentary where appropriate.

Dear Mr. Dodge,   Nice opening.

Thank you for contacting me with your concerns regarding tax breaks for
oil companies. I appreciate hearing from you, and regret the delayed
response.

The oil and gas industry has a long history of receiving tax incentives
from the federal government. Dating back to the early 1900s, these tax  So now I get lectured on oil history?
breaks were designed to foster a fledgling domestic industry. Since that  I had to fix 'fledgling' was missing the D
time, the U.S. oil and gas industry has grown tremendously, and is now a
mature and immensely profitable industry that does not warrant continued
taxpayer subsidies. Over the last decade, the five largest oil
companies; ExxonMobil, BP, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, and Shell, have made
over a trillion dollars in profits.
* That's a boatload of money.

Since being elected to the Senate, I have worked to shift outdated
subsidies away from mature industries like oil and gas companies, and
invest those dollars to accelerate America's transition to a cleaner and
more diversified energy system. While I recognize that these budget
proposals face opposition from those with vested interests in the oil
and gas industry, I believe these are necessary measures that will help
reduce the federal budget deficit and move our nation towards a safer
and more secure energy future.

To that end, I spearheaded the negotiations that ended a nearly year and
a half Congressional stalemate, allowing an important $17 billion clean
energy tax package, the Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008
(H.R. 6049), to pass the Senate by a vote of 93 to 2. It was signed
into law on October 3, 2008. H.R. 6049 marked the first time Congress
voted to take embedded subsidies away from the mature and wildly
profitable oil and gas industry and reorient our tax code to accelerate
America's urgently needed transition to a cleaner and more renewable
energy system. These new tax incentives will accelerate our transition
to a clean energy system by extending, for example, the production
credit for electricity produced from renewables like wind, biomass, and
incremental hydropower, and the investment tax credit to unleash the
power of solar energy. The new law also provides up to $7,500 to
consumers who purchase plug-in electric cars, trucks or SUVs, makes our
electricity grid more intelligent, helps homeowners generate their own
electricity and hot water, and allows Washingtonians to decrease their
energy bills and earn up to $500 in tax deductions if they install
energy efficient products in their homes. Please be assured that I will
keep your thoughts in mind as I continue working with my colleagues to
further develop balanced and sustainable solutions to our nation's
long-term energy needs.

Thank you again for contacting me to share your thoughts on this matter.

the future if I can be of further assistance.

Nothing else was worthy of highlighting or commenting on...but notice that there was no mention or response to any actual point I made in my email. I am not surprised...these 'canned' responses are the only responses returned to voters and obviously, I am not hearing what I want to hear.  I will no longer be using opencongress.org to email the worthless politicians in my state....and since the Senators haven't answered one email that I sent to their personal email link, you can rejoice that I likely will not post something like this again.

Sincerely,
Maria Cantwell

Down to the wire.....maybe

   Hello friends,

It's the middle of December 2011 and it seems that the Republicans have narrowed down their choice for the ballot to seven candidates.  With one woman, one irritant and no Hispanics, I can imagine that the field will be reduced to five in the coming weeks.  Aaaaarrrrggghhh.  I can't finish this thought....only because it ends either with the re-election of the incumbent or the election of another Democrat.  I am not against Democrats; it's just that the few I have been in contact with, generally have nothing to say.  They try and tell me that they are "passionate" about this or that, but tell me nothing about what I asked.  Our Congress has grown too comfortable....and "passionate"?  I think not.

Our government, at best, is corrupt....but boy are they cordial.  So very nice to big business and telling the voter's what they want to hear...no wonder they get re-elected year after year.  If one wants to find any governments with "passion", they need just go to http://www.youtube.com/ and type " political fights " in the search bar.  I would say fighting is best kept for the last resort...but if you are willing to trade blows with a fellow politician...wouldn't that be considered "passionate".  That you believe so much in your idea that you would strike someone who opposed you or called you a liar.  Believe it or not....that is passion.  Sure, in some state assemblies some persons have fought...but how about Congress?  Oh my...perish the thought that anyone would raise their voice or <gasp> lash out.  Call someone a "liar" in Congress, they have a 10 minute recess to figure out ways for the guy to apologize for calling the other person a liar.  Our Congress is "passionate" about one thing...okay, two things.  1. Ensuring they get re-elected and 2. Making sure that opposing parties bills don't see the light of day.

For your enjoyment, the follow is a compilation of truly "passionate" politics.  Rated G ( for Good fun ).  Okay...I didn't pick the song.......remember, these are leaders...

  Have a good day everyone.

Universal Language, more music and some insight...

Hello friends and readers,

After my previous post, I got to thinking....and thinking more.  I am multi-lingual, but found that when my friends in Germany spoke fast, it was much harder to understand....and when I was in Ireland and spoke Gaelic, I  spoke too fast for the locals to understand.  I believe that what we say, especially how we say it, better defines the point we are trying to make.  I am hoping to learn new languages....and will always enjoy music.

During my last deployment, way back in 2008, I purchased a CD of Arabic music.  It was titled , appropriately enough, 'Arabic Groove '.  I learned quickly that although the music was quirky and dance-able,  I couldn't understand what they were saying...and it didn't matter. The music on the CD was by various artists and had music from different regions and countries.  I am hoping to introduce, maybe for some, something a little different, but with no less meaning. If I create even one extra fan of this music or to my blog....success.

  Introducing, by way of www.youtube.com

ARABIC GROOVE

All three videos were originally culled from the CD 'Arabic Groove'.  I listened to it a lot during my deployment in 2008, and after I got home.  Definitely worth listening to, even for a moment....but I think once the music starts...well, you will see.

For some who say, "Is this really a presidential blog"?  I say, "YES, it is".  I have decided that every day cannot be critical, so for today and the previous post, I wrote about music. Have a great day and terrific weekend...starting tomorrow.

MATISYAHU : Music for the WORLD.

  Hello friends and readers,

In some previous posts, I have identified people and groups who have made a difference, and today's post is no different.

I originally wasn't going to post today until I read an article in our military newspaper about a reggae musician who was going to shave his beard to " find himself ".  What caught me off guard was the fact that this particular artist is an Orthodox Hasidic Jew and the beard is so symbolic and reverent in their following of the religion.  I went to Youtube.com and what I found transcended a national identity....and I want to share some links to his information and a couple of his videos.  In his music, he speaks to everyone no matter where they are and his music should not be credited to his religion or birthright....it comes from the heart.  Please join me and give this musician a thumbs up and give his music a listen.

This article explains the beard shaving somewhat:  http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/matisyahu-shaves-beard-leaves-fans-confused/2011/12/14/gIQAoxzguO_story.html

This link from Wikipedia will give you more information about this artist: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matisyahu

I hope you enjoy the music....it's nice finding something new and positive.  Have a great day!

Senator Cantwell (D) response to my recent email ( earmarks ).

 Hello friends and readers,

I wished I could say her response was anything but predictable.....but here is her response to my email about the severe misuse of public trust and earmarks regarding the current Defense Bill.

From the Office of Senator Cantwell

Dear Mr. Dodge,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the National Defense Authorization
Act of 2012. I appreciate hearing from you on this matter.

Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) introduced the National Defense Authorization
Act of 2011 on May 5, 2011. This legislation was passed by the United
States Senate by a vote of 93-7 on December 1, 2011. This bill will now
be sent to conference to work out the differences between the Senate and
House versions. The National Defense Authorization Act is enacted each
fiscal year to specify the budget and expenditures of the U.S.
Department of Defense.

The National Defense Authorization Act for 2012 includes numerous
provisions that relate to the treatment of terrorism detainees. One
such provision requires that any detainee caught on U.S. soil must be
remanded to the U.S. military for custody. This provision is strongly
opposed by the White House and the Department of Defense; both entities
have stated that it will limit current options available to our
counter-terrorism officials. However, the legislation also allows the
Administration to waive this "mandatory custody" requirement. The bill
also provides for an exemption for any mandatory custody transfer that
would interfere with ongoing civilian law enforcement surveillance or
interrogation efforts.

I am concerned about the potential impact of these provisions on
American civil liberties, and supported an amendment offered by Senator
Feinstein that passed 99-1 which clarified that nothing in the current
National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 shall affect existing law
relating to the detention of United States citizens. I also supported
Senator Feinstein's amendment to prohibit American citizens from being
held in indefinite detention without charge or trial.

I will continue to support a strong national defense that protects
Americans from those who would do us harm, while safeguarding the civil
liberties and rights that are vital to our freedom. These principles are
not mutually exclusive: we can and must achieve both. We must continue
to aggressively pursue terrorists, while respecting the Constitutional
rights of Americans.

I am profoundly grateful for the service of our brave men and women in
the armed services and for the sacrifices they have made to defend and
preserve our great nation. As such, we have an important responsibility
to ensure that they have the tools and resources they need to
successfully complete their mission and return home safe. Please be
assured that I will continue to work with my colleagues on behalf of the
many soldiers in the state of Washington.

Thank you again for contacting me to share your thoughts on this matter.
You may also be interested in signing up for periodic updates for
Washington State residents. If you are interested in subscribing to
this update, please visit my website at http://cantwell.senate.gov

the future if I can be of further assistance.

Maria Cantwell
United States Senator

Not surprisingly, no mention of earmarks and no words to make me think they actually care.  Enjoy your time in Congress Sen. Cantwell.  Looking forward to voting you out.

Congressional approach to earmark reform.....

Hello friends and readers,

It came to my attention today that a vote that recently passed in the Senate, was in fact riddled with 'earmarks'...extra pork that I have posted about before.  Legislation has been passed in recent years to try and reform the habit of introducing such "pork" into bills before the final vote.

http://earmarkreform.house.gov/

Apparently, our Senate leaders and some junior senators introduced over 800 million dollars of 'earmarks' into the most recent Defense Bill.  Following is a letter that I emailed to my Representatives in Washington State.

S.1867 National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012
I am writing as your constituent in the 6th Congressional district of Washington. I oppose S.1867 - National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012, and am tracking it using OpenCongress.org, the free public resource website for government transparency and accountability.

I am guessing that this is the bill with 75 earmarks from Democrats and a handful from Republicans totaling around 115 earmarks and over $800,000,000 dollars. Close? So much for earmark reform as the House and Senate continue to ply their trade. I didn't see any specific earmarks for soup kitchens or to create new jobs. Don't worry though, I will be posting the names of those "representatives" that added the pork to my blog. Sad to hear some of the junior senators won't get a chance for a second term. Until you stop doing for yourself and do the job you swore an oath to do...you will get no quarter from me. Good riddance.

Additionally, quit letting your lackeys write me back..either do it yourself or don't bother. What a waste the 112th Congress truly has become.

Sincerely,
Trevor Dodge

What is funny about the above link...is that Senator McCaskill (D) calls out Republicans for the entirety of earmarks submitted and never mentioned that 75 of the 'earmarks' were added by Democrats.  I am hoping to find the trail, so that we, as informed voters, can assure that these Senators to not enjoy a 2nd term, 3rd term or whatever the case may be.

Useful news is good news.  Have a great day everyone.

  Hello again friends and readers,

My 'recess' didn't last too long.  I had a lot on my mind...among them, leaving for school soon and redeploying, voter apathy and how best continue this blog in a meaningful direction without losing readers and before I am able to delve into the big topics that define a candidate.  First things first.

As disappointing as it is, although not unexpected...I have not received emails back from my legislators or the president.  Seems that the emails I received from the Democrats that supposedly "represent" my state; all they tended to say was..." it's the fault of Republicans ".  No substance and no....yarbles.  Sorry for the cryptic Clockwork Orange verbiage.  Just not sure how folks would take it if I said the Dem's have no balls....oops.  In the correspondence I have had with Republicans....blaming the Democrats isn't the first thing they say.  Getting back to my point...since I have not received emails back, I am going to start contacting foreign Governments later this week.  I am not going to press them full court by any means...I only want to establish some communication with them..and if that works out alright, then I will bring up the fact that I am running for president in 2016.  Depending on what's emailed, I will gladly share it.  Nothing better than foreign relations...right?

Figuring out why voters are so lax in contacting their "representatives".  That has me puzzled.  As an Army guy who had his pay withheld twice this year, I can count on one hand how many guys in my unit have contacted their reps for one thing or another.  Certainly, the Senators and Representatives can ignore us if only a few write or email.  What would it take to get more people involved?  I really don't have the answer for that...I have added links to sites in which they can be reached in less than 5 clicks.  Very few are taking the initiative to take charge of their lives and the direction of their government...and passing that information on to their friends.   If we fail to get their attention....well, it doesn't look good.  I encourage everyone again to go to www.opencongress.org to see what your representatives are doing in Congress...or rather, what they are not doing.

Will be posting about 5 posts a week until I leave for school later this month...after that it will be up in the air, and will post when I can.  Have a great day.

Taking pause....a 'recess' if you will

  Hello friends and readers,

This will absolutely not be my last post....just getting that out of the way.  I am taking a break from writing...maybe few days, maybe longer.  I have come too far too give up on my hopes...a truly transparent government, getting people empowered and excited enough to want to make change and hopefully, the presidency in 2016.

Some of the posts are funny, some are serious and others are just observations.  I have seen a jump in the number of great people from far away take at least a passing interest in the blog for one reason or another....and the number of views in the U.S. has dwindled.

Understandably, who in their right mind would want to read something political for near five years from an author they didn't know?   I can't say that I would....it's hard enough for me to be inundated by the media in the 18 months leading up to an election...really.   Usually politicians slamming their opposition and trying to dig up dirt, instead of telling the voters what they can do for them.  Not that it matters since our president isn't elected by popular vote....makes me wonder why we even have a general election.  Maybe so those who voted for the person the Electoral College picks can feel like 'winners' and those who don't.....well...you get the picture.

What is most difficult for me right now, is trying to get people out of the rut...the status quo.  I have tried to get them to see that it is they who can make the changes....we, the people are empowered. Alas, most Americans are apathetic when it comes to politics and change.  It took the government not paying me during a deployment because of political infighting to become pissed off enough to want to do something...and do something on a grand scale.

So...with that, I am going to take a break from writing.  Maybe a day or two...maybe slightly longer.  I want to thank everyone who has contributed thus far, and look forward to getting back to business.  Have a great weekend everyone!!

New feature(s).....same blog.

  Hello friends and readers,

As you may have noticed, some extra features have been added to the blog page.  With the poll to help decide an Independant party name winding down, I added a gadget that shows puppy and dog pictures each day.  I have to admit...it's pretty difficult to find parallel between dogs and politics...unless you find yourself calling politicians "dogs"....of course, I try to not demean dogs in that fashion.

My favorite gadget, just added yesterday is an honest to goodness Internet petition.  You can sign it just by clicking the sign link.  It takes less than 10 seconds....it takes me three times as long to heat up my coffee in the microwave.  How about those apples?  Notice the item of the petition....banning lobbyists from Capitol Hill.   I was actually thinking...'wouldn't it be great if my first Executive Order as president, was to ban lobbyists'?   Can see the terrified faces of the ghastly money hungry leeches becoming ever so pale.  Ha ha.

Please sign the petition and let's see if we can spread the word via email and such.  After signing, you can share it or send it.  Thank you much and have a great day!
